Liz Van Zeeland is an Oxford-born painter who studied art and design at West Dean College of art in the UK. Nature is at the centre of her art, as she finds inspiration when being outside. She explains that the environment help her sketching and recording different shapes and textures. Back in her studio, her paintings all start intuitively with no fixed idea as to the outcome. She creates a textured base, using layers of paint and sometimes collage, oil sticks and charcoal, then sand back and continually repeat this process until she has developed a depth and a kind of history within the painting. She then blocks off certain areas using contrasting saturated colour and more intentional lines until and image starts to make itself clear.
