Threads, Textile Art Exhibition with Laura Blanche and Julie Costentin, Event on 16/10/2024
We are delighted to invite you to “Threads,” an inspiring exhibition showcasing the vibrant and innovative works of two talented emerging artists, Laura Blanche and Julie Costentin. Running from October 3rd to October 20th, this exhibition aligns perfectly with Luxembourg Fashion Week, celebrating the importance and beauty of textile art in the context of the fashion world.
The choice of the textile theme is not coincidental. As a passionate about this rapidly evolving medium, I wanted to highlight the significance of textile expression while embracing the excitement of the fashion industry. Textile art is not just a form of expression; it is a dialogue between tradition and innovation.
Laura Blanche holds a degree in graphic design and motion design from the prestigious Gobelins School. Her artistic journey is eclectic, blending video, graphic design, drawing, fashion, and textile art. Laura launched Tuktuk Club, her own brand of colorful and upcycled clothing, which represents a powerful fusion of her passion for fashion and her commitment to sustainability. The concept is simple yet effective: to gather second-hand clothes, transform them, customize them, and give them a second life. At the end of 2023, she felt the need to step back and explore larger textile formats, continuing to express herself with creativity and dedication. Her textile creations become true pictures made from fabrics and clothes, forming a carnival of colors and a world inhabited by characters, objects, and plants. Each piece of fabric is chosen for its story, creating a dialogue between different eras and clothing styles.
Julie Costentin, on the other hand, explores pattern design through a fusion of colorful shapes and prints that can be applied to various surfaces. Having studied and worked in Brussels and Madrid, she is currently based in Barcelona. Her work navigates between the realms of textiles, design, and contemporary art, creating custom tufted rugs, wallpaper designs, and a range of modern products such as pillows and mirrors. Her pieces are known for their immersive textures and dynamic compositions.
Together, Laura and Julie embody the spirit of innovation in textile art, making this exhibition a must-see for art and fashion enthusiasts alike. Their respective talents promise to inspire and captivate, inviting everyone to appreciate textile art as a unique and powerful form of expression.
