Art Exhibition: Jorge Colomina, Bold Expressions, opening on 5/2
Jorge Colomina: Upcoming Exhibition Opening on February 5, 2025 (6/2-9/3/2025)
Jorge Colomina was born in 1953 in Alcoy, a province of Alicante, Spain. His early life in Franco’s Spain during the 1960s is marked by his parents’ emigration to Marseille, which led him to join them in Paris with his brother in 1963.
From a young age, Colomina demonstrated a passion for drawing and painting. Once settled in Paris, his curiosity and love for art drew him to explore the city’s museums. He diligently practiced his craft, creating sketches and paintings, and by the age of thirty, he decided to dedicate himself entirely to his art. He chose Antibes, located on the Mediterranean coast, as his base to freely pursue his painting.
Influenced by great artists like Picasso, Miró, Cézanne, and Matisse, Colomina studied their works to develop his own unique style, which he describes as a kind of “Abstract Figurative.” His art is characterized by bright colors and emotive expressions, reflecting his passion and experiences.
Colomina has had notable exhibitions and recognition throughout his career. In July 2010, he represented Spain at the Longueuil Percussion Festival in Canada, where he created a 3×2 meter painting live in front of 10,000 people. He was invited back in July 2011 and received an honorary exhibition in Ormesson-sur-Marne in February 2013, where he was awarded a medal by the mayor. His work has been exhibited in prominent venues, including the Showroom Casasola in Rabat, Morocco, and several exhibitions in Brussels, Luxembourg, and China.
Colomina’s paintings resonate with themes from his origins and fantasies, with a predominant focus on women as a timeless source of inspiration. Influenced by the sun of his homeland, his works also reflect strong themes related to Spanish culture, such as bullfighting and flamenco. His vibrant, colorful style has garnered appreciation from critics, with a distinction given by art journalist Bernard Vadon in 1993.
Over the past thirty years, Colomina has celebrated his art in prestigious events and locations including museums, galleries, and professional fairs. His southern temperament has contributed to his recognition along the Mediterranean shores and across the Atlantic.
