Description

Serie Vision of the Abbess

Visions from the Abbess is a poetic series in which Benoît returns to the landscapes surrounding the monastery of Hildegard von Bingen (1098–1179) – medieval mystic, healer, composer, and abbess. Composed entirely of elements photographed in the vicinity of her abbey in Bingen am Rhein (Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany), the works reimagine the visionary states Hildegard described: thresholds between earth and spirit, the visible and the unseen. Through soft-focus layers, intentional camera movement, and diffused colour, nature becomes a vessel for inner revelation – birds, trees, mist, and shifting light form a symbolic language of contemplation. Blending photography with mystical sensibility, Visions from the Abbess invites us not only to witness the world before our eyes, but to sense what quietly stirs beneath its surface.
