The history of candlelight began in 1950, when Jens Andreas Dahl Hansen founded the candle foundry Hygge Lys in Copenhagen, and quickly became one of the leading suppliers to churches in Denmark. He designed a sculptural and timeless candle that could stand directly on a table as well as on the floor. An iconic Danish design that combines simplicity, aesthetics and function, brought to life through skilled craftsmanship and the best quality raw materials.
The fourth generation now lifts the heritage and ensures that the good craftsmanship and high quality are continued. The altar candles are produced in Denmark, still cast by hand and finished by hand. In addition, each calendar candle is hand-printed. The cosy candle was added in 2015 and is the well-known design in the colours of nature.
Sustainability, design, craftsmanship and premium quality, unite in the Altar candle. For the casting of the candles, 100% vegetable stearin of palm oil is used, which is certified by RSPO. Together with a custom-made pure cotton wax, it gives the candle a full flame and a stable burn that is environmentally and allergy friendly.
Those candles are produced by the purest and most stable 100% plants stearin. They are handcrafted in Denmark. They last long, don’t flow and create even a lace collar when they are consumed… environmental friendly and design… what else.?
