Falk Schornstheimer Art Exhibition – Opening on 25 April

We are thrilled to announce the return of painter Falk Schornstheimer to our gallery!
Following the resounding success of his "Erkundungen" exhibition in October 2021 in Subtile, Falk is back with a captivating new collection entitled "Routes Secondaires du Désir" ("Seitenstrassen der Sehnsucht").
Falk's recent works delve even deeper into the confrontation between diverse materials and techniques. His paintings, dominated by neutral and sober tones, are born from unexpected effects created with mineral pigments and oxides. This unique process transforms the canvases, evoking the texture and feel of tapestries, weathered copper and iron plates, or even worn leather. Sobriety, warmth, contrast, and intensity converge in this compelling exhibition, where the artist and explorer are one and the same.
Traces of iron filings, India ink, and pastel dust meet oil and acrylic mediums. Marks reminiscent of chalk, charcoal, and pencil sketches create an almost illegible, yet deeply felt, form of inscription.
Falk invites viewers to perceive his abstract works as lyrical, transcendent, dreamlike, fluid, and fragmented.
Content takes a backseat to feeling; narrative is absent. Instead, Falk offers a space of possibility, where each viewer can explore their own truth and intuition. This inherent vagueness is intentional. Falk Schornstheimer's art actively resists our overly logical and utilitarian mindset, a mindset that naively equates modernity with digitization, technology, and efficiency.
Echoing Baudelaire, Falk’s art captures "modernity as the transient, the fugitive, the contingent," but paired with the "eternal and immutable."
